Pepenii is not a pear variety for fruit production and is classified as a seedling rootstock. In Romanian horticulture, it was used to create the root system for grafted cultivated trees.

In modern publications, the use of seedling rootstocks, to which Pepenii belongs, is limited, as preference is given to vegetative rootstocks that allow for more effective control of tree size.
