The variety is a local landrace, not the result of directed breeding of new hybrids. In genetic studies using molecular markers, it was established that Rabiça forms a distinct variety group together with Pera de Inverno and Pérola Amarela.

In scientific publications, the variety is considered in the context of assessing the biodiversity of Portuguese pears and studying susceptibility to fire blight Erwinia amylovora. Detailed morphological characteristics of the plant and detailed data on agrotechnics are absent in available publications.
