The Refego variety is a local traditional common pear variety. It does not belong to breeding varieties developed through directed crossing and is included in the National Catalogue of Fruit Varieties of Portugal for the purpose of fruit production.

In official registers, the variety is registered for fruit production, however, it is mentioned more in the context of genetic diversity of Portuguese pears and the preservation of local biological heritage than as an industrial commercial variety of the intensive type.
