The variety belongs to the summer maturity group. The small fruits have a bulbous or bergamot-like shape. The thin but firm green skin turns yellow upon ripening; a brownish-red blush, often accompanied by russeting, may appear on the sunny side.
The fruits are not intended for long-term storage and have a spicy taste. They are suitable for fresh consumption, drying, and making fruit butter. The variety is known for its longevity and was historically used in rural areas, as well as a rootstock for other pear varieties.
