The variety is a spontaneous anthocyanin mutation of the traditional 'Williams' pear. The tree is characterized by moderate vigor and forms a compact, round-pyramidal crown. Fruits weighing from 160 to 250 g have a pear-shaped, often knobby appearance and are distinguished by a dark red or burgundy skin color, which may lose intensity over time.
The fruit flesh is yellowish-white, juicy and tender, and possesses a characteristic muscat aroma. The variety is late-summer, with harvest maturity occurring in late August or early September. The plant requires the planting of pollinators and, when grown on quince rootstocks, may require an interstock due to compatibility issues.
The variety's resistance to scab is assessed as relative, and its winter hardiness as average. The fruits have versatile uses, suitable for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and the production of fruit distillates.
