The variety is an evergreen wide shrub derived from Rhododendron catawbiense seedlings. At the age of 20, the plant reaches a height of 2.5 m and a width of up to 3 m.
Flowering occurs from the end of May to early June. Dense hemispherical inflorescences about 14 cm in diameter consist of 16 open funnel-shaped flowers of a purple-red shade (RHS 60D). The variety is adapted to northern climatic conditions.
