The variety is the result of crossing Goliath and Baldwin varieties. The bush is characterized by a compact structure. Berries are medium or large in size, fragrant, with thin skin, while prone to cracking during periods of high humidity in the summer.
The plant possesses high frost resistance and is for universal use, suitable for freezing, processing into juices and jams. The variety is susceptible to blackcurrant reversion virus, therefore it is used as an indicator plant for detecting this disease. Amos Black served as a parent form in the breeding of a number of modern varieties.
