The bush is medium-sized, reaching 0.9–1.8 meters in height, and has a compact, upright form. The berries are black, shiny, and gathered in clusters; they have a tart, sweet-and-sour taste and a pronounced musky aroma. Fruit ripening occurs in mid-to-late July.
The variety has immunity to white pine blister rust, but may be susceptible to powdery mildew and anthracnose. The plant is self-fertile, shade-tolerant, and long-lived, with a life cycle of about 20 years. The variety is primarily used for making jams, preserves, sauces, jellies, wine, and juices.
