The plant is a compact bush 45 to 60 cm tall with erect stems. The foliage is fragrant, dark green, and moderately wrinkled. The fuchsia-pink inflorescences are gathered into dense spikes and are located on contrasting dark charcoal-colored stems.
Flowering begins in late spring or early summer; a repeat wave is possible after removing spent flower stalks. The variety is drought tolerant after establishment, resistant to lodging, and is not damaged by deer or rabbits. Prefers well-drained soils.
Used in landscape design for creating borders, mass plantings, container cultivation, and as a cut flower crop. It is a honey plant that attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
