The plant is a vigorously growing subshrub 90–150 cm in height and 60–180 cm in width. Leaves are bright green, corrugated heart-shaped or deltoid, and possess a subtle fragrance. Flowers are tubular, of a rich royal purple color, contrasting with the dark calyces.
Flowering lasts from late spring or early summer until the first autumn frosts. The variety is thermophilic (USDA zones 8–10), relatively drought-tolerant, and disease-resistant. The plant is sterile, does not produce seeds, and does not form aggressive root suckers. Used in flower beds, mass plantings, and container gardening.
