The Rubin variety is an industrial berry crop whose fruits are used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. They serve as raw material for the production of juices, natural food colorings, and dietary supplements due to the high content of anthocyanin pigments and solids.
In Austrian commercial fruit growing, this variety is cultivated alongside other industrial varieties. Rubin is also used as a pollinator for other industrial elderberry varieties, in particular the Haidegg 13 variety.
