The variety «Värne» was developed as a supplement to the «Kungs II» variety. The plant belongs to the short-stemmed rye variety group.
The variety possesses increased drought tolerance, which allows it to be cultivated on lighter soils. However, the winter hardiness of the variety is assessed as relatively weak, and therefore it is not recommended for cultivation in northern regions.
A distinctive economic characteristic of the variety is its unique resistance to pre-harvest sprouting.
