The UMH 1209 variety, also known as Pera moruno, was bred to preserve the characteristics of traditional Spanish varieties while simultaneously increasing their phytosanitary resistance. The line was selected in the sixth generation of backcrossing and possesses a specific chocolate coloration of the fruits at the maturity stage.

The plant possesses genetic resistance to a complex of major viral diseases, including Tomato mosaic virus (ToMV), Tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), and Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), which is designated in the documentation as RR-RR-RR.
