The variety is a traditional landrace potato that has been grown for centuries in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland. It is not a product of modern breeding and is known by many regional names, including Rauðar Islenskar.
The tubers have a round-oval, often slightly flattened shape with deep-set eyes and a deep apical notch. The skin is red-violet, and the flesh has a yellow hue, sometimes with reddish flecks.
The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group. It is characterized by good culinary qualities, although tuber size may vary depending on growing conditions. As an old landrace, it does not possess the specific disease resistance characteristic of modern hybrids.
