In Finland and Scandinavian countries, the name Manteli (translated as "almond") has been historically used by local farmers to denote potatoes with characteristic oblong "almond-shaped" tubers. Most often, the Lapin Puikula variety is meant by this name.
This potato is considered a traditional and old variety, adapted to the conditions of a short northern summer. The tubers possess a specific taste and are a table variety that is traditionally consumed with the skin on.
An official breeding unit with the name Manteli does not exist in international registers. The use of this term as a synonym for various varieties makes it impossible to establish unambiguous agronomic characteristics without reference to specific genetic material.
