The variety has a centuries-old history of cultivation in Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Iceland, where it is known by a multitude of local names. The plants reach a great height, bloom sparsely with small white flowers with a red-violet shade; berries are formed rarely.
Tubers are round or short-oval in shape, slightly flattened, with deep eyes and a sunken stolon end. The skin is red-violet, the flesh is yellow, often with reddish vascular tissues. The variety is characterized by a high content of dry matter and sugars, which makes it floury when boiled, but prone to darkening when fried.
