Variety description

10 August 2026

The Urgenta variety was bred in 1951 and serves as the genetic basis for the popular Desiree variety, which is considered in scientific studies to be its somatic mutant. The variety was used as a table potato and possesses morphological characteristics typical of ZPC breeding from that period.

Currently, the variety is not among widely cultivated industrial types, as it has been replaced by more modern hybrids with increased resistance to diseases such as late blight and potato cyst nematode.
