The wheat variety «Genoa» was created as a result of the breeding work of William Farrer in Australia. Its pedigree includes such varieties as «White Naples», «Improved Fife», «Hornblende», and samples of Indian wheat. The variety is historical and was intended for the conditions of Australian farming of that time.
By its characteristics, «Genoa» is classified as late-maturing wheat. Scientific data indicate the presence of the bunt resistance gene Bt3 in this variety. One should distinguish this specific breeding object from historical references to wheat imported in the 19th century from the Italian port of Genoa.
