The variety belongs to the late-maturing group and is characterized by a short-stemmed plant type. In breeding practice, this specimen was used as a reference when describing morphological traits, in particular, the shape of the flag leaf.
Today, the variety is represented primarily in plant genetic resource collections. The name Kranich has also been assigned to one of the races of the wheat yellow rust pathogen, which has caused the variety to become susceptible to this disease.
