The winter soft wheat variety Mv Szigma was obtained using biotechnological breeding methods, specifically anther culture for creating doubled haploids. Its pedigree includes the combination MV 21-85 / MV 15, and the variety also contains the 1RS.1BL translocation.

It belongs to the mid-late maturity group. In scientific publications, it is considered a model object for studying regeneration and fertility processes in the production of haploid plants, and is also investigated for the presence of resistance genes, specifically the Lr34/Yr18 complex.
