The Zdar variety is a winter wheat bred by specialists at the Crop Research Institute in Prague-Ruzyně. The variety is not intended for widespread commercial cultivation and is currently considered historical breeding material.
In scientific programs, the variety is used as an object for crossing in the development of new wheat lines and in the study of plant development genetics, in particular the Vrn1 gene. The variety has also been used as an object in comparative trials for resistance to leaf spot and Septoria.
