Ciciredda is a local Sicilian landrace formed through many years of selection by farmers. The plants are characterized by tall stature and late maturity, typical of this group of varieties.

The variety possesses pronounced resistance to abiotic stresses; in particular, it shows good root system development results under salt stress conditions. Protein and gluten content indicators in the grain are assessed as medium or low compared to modern commercial varieties.

Currently, the variety is practically not used in commercial production due to its incompatibility with intensive agricultural technologies. Its primary purpose is its use in breeding programs to improve the nutritional value and adaptability of new varieties.
