Cicireddu, also known as Ciciredda, is a traditional variety of Sicilian folk selection. Historically, the variety was cultivated in the hilly and mountainous areas of the provinces of Enna, Ragusa, Caltanissetta, and Catania.
The variety belongs to the late-maturing group. Unlike modern intensive cultivars, Cicireddu is characterized by a specific protein profile and gluten properties, which makes it a subject of scientific research into the genetic characteristics of Mediterranean landraces.
