Under the name Rubio are known ancient Spanish landraces of durum wheat, such as Rubio de Belalcázar or Rubio de Montijo, which were traditionally cultivated in the Mediterranean region.

In modern breeding, these populations are considered a genetic resource of interest for studying resistance to stress factors and specific protein composition characteristics; however, standardized agronomic traits for them are absent.
