The variety is the result of intra-population selection from an ancient local Sicilian variety, Russello, and is considered the successor to the Russello Sg7 line. It is a traditional variety adapted to the specific soil and climatic conditions of Sicily.
The plant belongs to the medium-early maturity group. In experimental trials, the yield was approximately 2.4 t/ha. The grain is suitable for baking and pasta production; research indicates the presence of phenolic compounds in it.
