The plant is a dwarf creeping shrub with a height of 5 to 15 cm. The foliage is evergreen, dark green in summer, and turns into rich red or bronze shades in autumn. During the summer period, from May to June, small pink flowers appear.

The variety is capable of fruiting, forming red berries with a tart taste; however, the main purpose of the plant is decorative use in landscape design, in particular for rock gardens and rockeries. The plant possesses winter hardiness within USDA zones 2a–7b.
