The variety is native to Greece and is traditionally cultivated on the Peloponnese peninsula, particularly in the Nemea region. It has synonyms Mavro Nemeas and "Blood of Hercules". It is characterized by late bud break and a late ripening period of the berries. Clusters and berries are small, the skin is thick.

The plant is not resistant to major fungal diseases, showing high susceptibility to downy mildew and powdery mildew. The variety is prone to high yields, which requires controlling the load on the vine to obtain quality raw material. Vine height is not a fixed trait and is determined by agricultural practices and altitude above sea level.

Wines from this variety possess soft tannins and balanced acidity. The flavor and aroma profile includes notes of cherry, wild berries, dried fruits, and spices. The character of the wine depends on growing conditions: fruity samples are obtained at lower altitudes, while more structured ones, suitable for aging in oak, are obtained at higher altitudes.
