The variety is autochthonous to the central part of Spain. The vines are characterized by great vigor. The leaf is medium-sized, three-lobed, and slightly lobed. The bunches are large, ranging from cylindrical to conical in shape, and of medium density. The berries are large, round, light yellow in color, with thin skin and juicy flesh.

Airen is a late-ripening variety, with harvest occurring in mid-September. The plant possesses high resistance to drought and is characterized by low maintenance requirements. The yield is high, ranging from 4.5 to 6 kg per vine. With modern vinification technologies, the variety allows for the production of fresh wines with floral and fruity notes.
