The variety is indigenous to Spain, primarily cultivated in the Extremadura region. Genetically, it originates from a cross between the Hebén and Folha de Figuiera varieties. The vine has high vigor and good yield, is well adapted to hot, dry climates, but is susceptible to fungal diseases.

The leaf of the plant is large, five-lobed, with an open petiolar sinus. The cluster is of medium size and density. The berries are small, round or slightly flattened, yellow in color, sometimes with an amber hue. The flower is hermaphroditic; the variety is self-pollinating.

The variety is used for the production of dry, as well as sweet and fortified wines. Wines made from it are characterized by freshness, pronounced acidity, and aromatic notes of citrus, pear, apple, peach, and fennel. It has many synonyms, including Alarije Dorada, Barcelonés, Aris, and Subirat.
