The variety is intended for winemaking, used both for the production of varietal white wines and in blends to soften tannins in red wines. The flower of the variety is hermaphroditic. The bunch has a broad-conical, dense, winged shape. The berries are medium, egg-shaped, pale yellow or golden in color, covered with a thin skin.
The leaves of the plant are large, round, deeply lobed, with dense pubescence on the underside. The variety has low resistance to fungal diseases, in particular to powdery mildew, and is prone to berry shelling (coulure). Genetically, it is a descendant of the Viura variety and one of the parents of the Tempranillo variety.
