The variety is classified as highly vigorous with upright shoot growth. Leaves are large, rounded, 3- or 5-lobed. Clusters are cylindrical-conical in shape, with an average weight of 130–140 grams. Berries are medium-sized, black in color, covered with a waxy bloom, and have a thick skin.

The growing season lasts about 164 days, with ripening occurring in the third ten-day period of September at an active temperature sum of approximately 2950 °C. The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew and gray mold, and requires trellising due to its high vigor.

Aléatico is used exclusively in winemaking for the production of dry and sweet wines, including wines made from dried grapes. The flavor and aroma profile is characterized by notes of muscat, rose, cherry, lychee, and mulberry; the color of the finished wines is intense, ruby-purple.
