The variety has medium vigor, round, almost entire leaves and cylindrical or cylindrical-conical dense clusters of medium size. The berries are round, yellowish-green with characteristic dark dots, covered with a thin but firm skin; the flesh is juicy and tender.

Aligoté belongs to early ripening varieties and is characterized by high winter hardiness down to -22...-24°C. The variety is susceptible to grey mold and downy mildew, while being less prone to powdery mildew. It is undemanding to soil composition and productive, however, it requires control over foliage development.

Wines from this variety are characterized by high acidity, freshness and a light floral-grassy aroma with notes of green apple and lemon. The variety is traditionally used both for creating varietal wines and in blends, and it is also the basis for the production of sparkling wines.
