A mid-season ripening variety requiring about 170 days from bud burst to harvest maturity. Vines are medium-growing with large dark green leaves that may acquire a purple hue in autumn. Bunches are medium-sized, broad-conical and dense.

Berries are bluish-black, round, covered with thick skin and a heavy waxy bloom. The variety is characterized by high yield, is demanding of heat, and is sensitive to drought and spring frosts due to early bud burst. It has low resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, gray mold, and anthracnose.

Wines made from this grape possess deep color and dense structure. Due to the high content of anthocyanins in the berry pulp, the variety is historically valuable for increasing the color intensity of wine blends.
