ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety forms medium-growth vines. Clusters are medium-sized, weighing about 140 g, conical in shape, and loose. Berries are medium-sized, round, black, and covered with a thick waxy bloom. The pulp is juicy, and the juice has an intense ruby color.
The period from bud burst to grape maturity is 160–165 days with an active temperature sum of 3000–3200°C. The variety is distinguished by high and stable yields in the range of 120–150 c/ha, and is characterized by relatively high winter hardiness and relative resistance to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold.
It is used exclusively for the production of full-bodied red wines. Due to the presence of coloring pigments in the pulp and juice, the variety is used in blends to give wines a deep color and aroma with notes of cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant.
