The variety is the result of a spontaneous cross, with the Traminer (Savagnin) variety as the maternal parent. It is considered a link between a number of varieties of the Pyrenees and the Atlantic coast.

The variety is classified as technical (wine). Historical data indicate early ripening — approximately 20 days earlier than other varieties. Its ability to yield a larger quantity of must compared to other varieties is noted.
