The variety is indigenous to the Provence region with records dating back to the 16th century. It is classified as a wine grape variety intended for the production of white wines and is widely used in blends within such appellations as Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bandol, Corbières, La Clape, Minervois, and Cassis.

The plant is a late-ripening variety with good yield. An important feature of the variety is its high resistance to grey mold and its ability to maintain an acid balance even in hot and dry climatic conditions. Wines created from it possess structure and citrus notes with hints of smoke and spice.
