The GONFAUS variety is an ancient autochthonous red grape from the Lluçanès region of Catalonia. It is a wine grape variety with a long growing cycle, with buds bursting in mid-March and berries ripening by mid-September. Genetically, the variety is a parent of the Querol variety and is related to the Pirene, Trobat, and Graciano varieties.

The plant has a semi-upright growth habit and a female type of flower, which necessitates the presence of pollinator varieties. The variety is characterized by low yield and high natural adaptability to arid conditions and high temperatures.

Wines made from this grape have good concentration, ripe soft tannins, and fresh acidity. The aromatic profile is dominated by notes of cherry, blueberry, and ripe fruit, complemented by spicy shades and nuances of licorice.
