The variety is genetically related to a group of varieties from the Aosta Valley. In terms of maturity, it is a late-ripening variety, maturing approximately 20 days after the Chasselas variety. Wines made from this grape possess floral and aromatic characteristics with notes of cranberry, currant, and raspberry.

The term Goron was historically used as a generic name for red table wines from Valais based on the Pinot noir and Gamay varieties, therefore the full name Goron de Bovernier is used to identify the plant. Detailed data on vine vigor and disease resistance are absent in the sources.
