The variety has good vigor and an upright shoot growth habit. Berries are small, dark blue with a purple hue, and have thick skins and hard seeds. The plant is drought-tolerant and capable of adapting to various soil types, while preferring calcareous-clay sites.

The variety is low-yielding and characterized by cultivation difficulties. It shows high sensitivity to excess moisture and fungal diseases, in particular to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and gray mold.

The purpose of the variety is wine production, both in blends and as a varietal wine. Wines made from Graciano are distinguished by an intense aroma with notes of black berries, spices, violet, chocolate, and leather.
