The French variety Poulsard is an old indigenous grape. It is a wine variety used to produce red, rosé, sparkling, and "straw wines". Due to the very thin skin of the berries and low pigment content, the wines turn out pale, often resembling rosés.

The variety has an early ripening period and is characterized by a fickle nature. It is sensitive to spring frosts, as it buds early, and is also susceptible to powdery mildew, downy mildew, grey mold, and sunburn. The yield of the variety is average and unstable, with a tendency for flower drop.

Morphologically, the variety is characterized by small conical bunches of medium density or loose. The berries are medium-sized, round or slightly oval, dark violet in color with a waxy bloom and fleshy-juicy pulp. The leaf is pentagonal, five-lobed, and deeply incised.
