The Tressot Noir variety belongs to ancient wine grape varieties, whose historical origin is the Yonne region in France. Genetically, the variety is one of the parents of the Duras grape and a participant in the natural crossing to produce Petit Verdot. It has color mutations in the form of white (Tressot Blanc) and variegated (Tressot Panaché) varieties.
The plant belongs to the Vitis vinifera species and is characterized by a medium ripening period. Morphologically, it is characterized by medium-sized bunches and small berries. Wines from this variety possess high color intensity, density, and pronounced acidity. The variety is susceptible to powdery mildew, and its cultivation is hindered by difficulties in grafting, which has led to a reduction in planting areas to a critical minimum.
