Variety description

The variety is a grey-berried mutation of the Trousseau variety. The shoot tip is open, with white arachnoid pubescence. Mature leaves are large, five-lobed, and turn completely red in the autumn. Bunches are small, cylindro-conical, often with a wing, dense. Berries are small, slightly oval, with grayish-pink skin.
The variety belongs to the mid-late maturity group, ripening approximately 20 days after the Chasselas variety. It possesses a high potential for sugar accumulation. It is used for creating full-bodied wines with aromas of peach, honeysuckle, pear, and spices, as well as for dessert and fortified wines.
The variety is known under the synonyms Gray Riesling, Gris de Salces, Chauché Gris, Terret d’Afrique. It is found in France in the Jura, Alsace, and Lorraine regions, as well as in limited quantities in California.
