The variety is vigorous. Leaves are medium-sized, five-lobed, with long hairs on the main veins. Bunches are small and compact; berries are small and rounded. Shoots of the variety are rather fragile and prone to damage in strong winds.
The plant is sensitive to downy mildew, powdery mildew, and grey mold. The purpose of the variety is the production of white wines, which possess a neutral taste and light body, with rare notes of honeydew melon. The base wine is prone to oxidation.
The variety is known under a number of erroneous names, including Cape Riesling, Clare Riesling, and South African Riesling, although it has no genetic link to the German variety Riesling. It was previously used as a crossing partner to obtain the varieties Nouvelle, Therona Riesling, Cabernet Goudable, and Claverie Coulard.
