The variety is a regional synonym for the well-known Grenache variety, which historically became established in the Italian region of Liguria after being introduced from Spain in the 18th century. In the official classification, Granaccia is included in the registers as a synonym for the Cannonau N variety.
The plant belongs to the late-maturing category and is characterized by good adaptation to various soil types, including calcareous-clay soils. Historically, the variety gained widespread use due to high resistance to Oidium.
The berries have a deep red color with purple hues. The variety is used exclusively for technical purposes for the production of wines possessing an intense aroma of red berries, cherries, and spices, as well as a full-bodied taste with a pronounced balance of acidity and tannins.
