Imperatrice dalla Gamba Rossa is an autochthonous Italian variety rediscovered in the early 21st century in Piedmont. The variety belongs to the technical category and is used in wine production, particularly within the DOC Calosso framework.
The plant has pentagonal seven-lobed leaves. The bunch is small or medium, pyramidal or cylindro-conical, often winged. The berries are quite large, rounded, dark blue with a purple hue and a thick waxy bloom; the skin is of medium thickness.
The variety matures late or very late. It is characterized by high and stable yields. Resistance to frost and fungal diseases is rated as low, however, an ability to resist gray mold is noted.
Wine from this variety has a light garnet or ruby color. The bouquet contains balsamic, spicy notes, aromas of green pepper, oriental spices, cherry, and jam. The taste is characterized by intensity, tannins, and a mineral aftertaste.
