The variety is a descendant from a cross between the varieties Bombino bianco and Uva rosa antica. Genetic studies confirm that it is a full sibling of the Apulian varieties Bombino nero and Uva di Troia.

The variety belongs to the white technical (wine) grape types and is intended exclusively for wine production. Historically, it is localized in the Italian region of Apulia, primarily in the province of Brindisi, and belongs to the category of rare varieties.
