Variety description

The variety is of Italian origin; the parent pair was traditionally considered to be Barbera and Cabernet Franc, but later studies point to the possibility of a cross between Barbera and Merlot. It is a mid- to mid-late ripening grape; the harvest takes place in the third ten-day period of September.

The leaves are almost pentagonal, five-lobed. The clusters are medium-sized, pyramidal in shape, of moderate density, weighing 150–180 g. The berries are medium-sized, round-oval, blue-black in color with abundant bloom, possessing juicy flesh and a neutral taste.

The variety demonstrates high vigor and stable yield. Wines produced from it are distinguished by an intense ruby color, pronounced aroma, moderate tannins, and full body; they can be used both in blends and for the production of varietal wines.
