The variety originates from the northeastern part of Spain and is the result of a cross between the varieties Gibi and Brustiano faux. It belongs to medium or late ripening varieties with late bud burst. The vines are characterized as vigorous or moderately vigorous with upright shoots.
The plant tolerates water deficiency well, but is susceptible to Botrytis and powdery mildew, and also reacts poorly to extreme heat and wind. The variety is distinguished by high yield, which requires restriction to achieve high wine quality.
The grapes are used to create dry and sparkling wines possessing moderate acidity. Depending on the production technology and aging, fruit-floral notes or honey-nut shades may dominate in the wines. The variety is a key component of Spanish Cava.
