The term Màconnais is used as a designation for a wine-growing sub-region in France. In some technical lists, the name appears as a synonym for the Chardonnay variety, which is due to the widespread cultivation of this grape in the indicated area.

The Chardonnay variety is intended for the production of white, and less frequently red and rosé wines. In the Mâconnais region itself, in addition to Chardonnay, the Gamay and Pinot Noir varieties are also cultivated.
