Magliocco Dolce and Magliocco Canino are autochthonous varieties for the Calabria region. Both varieties are late-ripening: the harvest can last until the beginning of November. The leaves of both varieties are large and five-lobed.
Magliocco Dolce is distinguished by dense, cylindrical, medium-sized bunches and round berries. In Magliocco Canino, the bunches are conical, "winged," and of medium density; the berries are elliptic-ovate, with a color ranging from red-violet to blue-black. The Magliocco Canino variety is sensitive to drought.
Wines produced from these varieties possess an intense color, high structure, and pronounced tannins. The aromatic profile includes notes of red fruits, cherry, blackcurrant, spices, tobacco, and licorice.
